In the beginning, we coded our sites in HTML with a dash of Javascript or a pinch of Flash for some added spice. (Understandably, even those terms may seem like Greek.) More often than not we hung our hats on eye catching designs while the code behind the curtain was all very similar.
These days, website design can encompass everything from static websites that are essentially online brochures to 
complex, database-driven websites that can serve nearly an infinite number of dynamic pages. Websites sometimes need to be designed for a company intranet with a few hundred users or for potentially every Internet user in the world. Added to the insanity is a seemingly never-ending stream of new acronyms. XML. CSS. AJAX. It's enough to make you scream!
